Interior and exterior design is something that can be very personal, which is why many people choose to do it themselves. This of course requires tools, and while many jobs can be done with very little, having the right equipment is essential for getting the best look possible. With this in mind, there are a few pieces of equipment that will make your home improvements that much easier.

1. Sander

A belt sander is indispensable if you’re going to be painting anything. In particular, if you’re working with wooden furniture, you’ll need to ensure you’ve got a smooth and even surface to work with. You may also need to strip the old paint off. A belt sander means that you don’t need to spend ages manually rubbing down an object with a sanding block. There are also detail sanders available for more delicate areas.

2. Jigsaw

Cutting something to shape? A jigsaw is the very best way of neatly cutting wood or plasterboard. Whether you’re looking to cut a small hole for cables, or are making a decorative feature, the jigsaw is indispensable. It’s essential that you use jigsaws safely with a bench, and they are not suitable for slicing through large pieces of timber.

3. Cordless Drill

Possibly the most useful power tool you’re likely to come across, the cordless drill can do more than simply drill holes into things. You can add all manner of useful attachments, which can sand, brush and polish objects. Being cordless is also essential – cables can get in the way very easily, but make sure that you choose a model that can hold its charge for a reasonable length of time.

4. Circular Saw

If you’re building decking or need to cut anything large to size, then a circular saw will be your tool of choice. Jigsaws are useful for cutting smaller shapes, but they lack the power to efficiently cut through chunks of wood. Circular saws should always be used with a bench, and the item that’s being cut should be secured properly to ensure safety.

5. Impact Wrench

When building large constructs such as garden outhouses or decks, stability and quality are essential, which means that fixtures should be tightened properly. Impact wrenches are extremely helpful for making sure bolts are on tight, and are also useful in taking them out if you need to deconstruct something.

If you’re thinking of undertaking any major work, then do not go ahead without these essential tools. They’re all available from Anglia Tool Centre, and you can be sure that if you do your research properly, you’ll be able to use your tools for years to come.
